SEC NRS participated in the 51st meeting of the IAEA Commission on Safety Standards

51st meeting of the IAEA Commission on Safety Standards (CSS) took place on April 20-22, 2022. Mr Alexey Ferapontov, Deputy Chair of Rostechnadzor, and Mr Rashet Sharafutdinov, Deputy Director of SEC NRS, participated in the meeting via videoconference.
The drafts of safety standards were approved for publication and the DPPs for new documents were adopted during the meeting. One of the agenda items was dedicated to the issue of safety provision under military operations. Participants discussed possible development of safety guides in order to provide recommendations for safety provision under military operations and agreed to include this issue to the agenda of the next meeting. The IAEA presented information concerning applicability of safety standards to small modular reactors and non-water-cooled reactors and the publication of a safety guide dedicated to this issue, and on approaches and methodology of development of regulatory requirements for safety of design of advanced NPPs at the example of small modular reactors. Next CSS meetings are scheduled for October 17-21, 2022 and April 2-3, 2023. Commission on Safety Standards (CSS) of the IAEA is a permanent working body. Its members are senior officials of national regulatory bodies, and their competence includes development and enforcement of regulatory documents on nuclear and radiation safety, transport safety, and safety of radioactive waste management. CSS meeting are held regularly, twice a year. |
